    Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize

Obama, the Nobel and bombing the Moon?

It's been a few days now since the President was awarded the Nobel Prize and just about everything that can be said from he didn't deserve it to it'll bring prestige to our nation has been discussed in the media. Saturday Night Live which I haven't thought was funny in a long time did a fairly decent skit on the more ridiculous aspects of a new President receiving the award and although the jokes were pretty obvious I did laugh a little. With that said the people that really didn't have any say in the matter as is usually the case are the men and woman of the military who are engaged in conflict. With the limited amount of resources available and a debate over the potential increase of troops being sent to Afghanistan being played out on tv I can only imagine the response to the Nobel announcement that someone in a fire fight might have. Or for that matter the additional news that NASA had bombed the moon in order to find out what it was made of. When you're fighting for your life and the lives of the people in your unit it's awfully hard to look beyond the absurdity of things a world a way that don't appear to do anything to resolve your immediate situation. I'm a fan of the President as well as the overall purpose of NASA but I'm also a realist and until we as a nation are able to focus more on resolving the situations we're already in we will be trapped in an endless cycle of wars we can't win. And by "Winning" I don't mean start a war some where else so that we can take our minds off the other ones that aren't going so well. It's the equivalent of slamming your finger in a door to make you forget your broken foot. Perhaps redistibuting funds from, say, shooting rockets at the moon and paying for the President to fly to Oslo to receive an award to perhaps items such as supplies for our troops or even material needed to help the civilian population of Afghanistan find another source of revenue other than Poppies might be a better way to empty whats left of our national bank account.  Just a thought!
