This iReport is part of an assignment:
Do you haunt graveyards? |
Grave Searching with a Purpose
Yes, I haunt graveyards. Why? For one, I find a cemetery peaceful. Secondly, they are a tiny record of ones' existence. There are dashes, but not the full story. Sometimes those dashes indicate a long life & sadly, a short life.
While doing my family ancestry, I came across a site called findagrave.com . It is a site where people go through cemeteries, take snapshots of individual gravesites & then come back & input them into the website. I began with my personal family, that was a year ago. I now manage over 800 memorials. I have run into relatives doing the same thing. I have even taken to doing cemeteries that have not one single relation to me in them.
The older the cemetery, the better! The oldsest cemetery we've run across was while we were on vacation. There was no name to the cemetery but the graves were from back in the 1700's. It was exciting.
The cemetery "haunting" I do serves a purpose. After I've inputted the information on findagrave.com, it's there for someone to access from their home durning their own ancestry search. It's fun, it's addicting & purposeful.
