On Julia's trail au revoir Gourmet Magazine Memorial Lunch!
- lila, CNN iReport producer
Update from la belle France! Bonjour…Sorry to hear about the demise of Gourmet Magazine, but rest assured nothing keeps the French from a good meal.
Last week I finished My Life in France by Julia Child... Did you see the movie?
And have now taken to photographing great meals.
On the way back to Paris Monday, I stopped in Bourges to see the famous Gothic Cathedral with five naves, entries, and apses, Saint Etienne Cathedral.
The amazing lunch is pictured as a Gourmet Magazine Memorial.
Smoked magret de canard with a mini melted camembert, into which one dips the roasted potatoes and a little salad served on a black square piece of slate, in a cafe under the flying buttresses of the Gothic Cathedral!
It looked like it was straight from a magazine almost too good to eat.
I discovered this place totally by accident, being in desperate need of le toilette I ran into a dark empty bar pretending I wanted to eat there, although to my horror I saw semi porn on the large flat screen TV. I then asked it I could use the toilet first. It was up a spiral staircase and when I returned, they led me down a dark hall way into a beautiful sky lit room that was under the flying buttresses. It was so beautiful I just had to photograph it.
Goodbye Gourmet Mag....
