Food Stamp Entrepreneur
Stumbled upon an interesting story while organizing
HireNeighbors' first community job fair. The group picture
is of company representatives who attended my event:
Clayton County Commissioner's Office, Salvation Army, Valid
Financial Services and Walmart. I'm 4th from the left. I learned
many job seekers, for the first time ever, receive food stamps
to feed their families. They've thrown pride out the window to survive.
I have to respect that. Did you know a single person with less than
$1,100 a month in income can qualify for up to $200 a month in food
stamps? It's better than starvation. I know of one woman who used
some of her food stamps to buy muffins from Publix. She sold
them (for a profit) to employees in the city government office close
to her home. She used the money to pay her electric bill and buy
gas for her car. I thought that was smart. Adversity breeds creativity.
