    California’s fake quake

More than 6 million people throughout California have signed up to take part in a statewide earthquake disaster drill today, billed as the largest such exercise in U.S. history.

Many schools and businesses will practice "drop, cover and hold on" while some hospitals and fire departments will stage search-and-rescue missions and people posing as faux quake victims.

“The Great California Shakeout” comes two days before the 20th anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake, the magnitude 6.9 quake that rocked Northern California in 1989, killing dozens, damaging thousands of homes, and interrupting baseball’s World Series.
