This iReport is part of an assignment:
The Quinceañera |
My Quince, a multiracial perspective <3
My Quince was simply the best day of my life, however it did not come easy. I had to earn my quince through hardwork and dedication to to my academics. I'am in the IB program and i wasnt allowed to have a Quince unless i recieved top grades. However, my Quinceanara was worth all the hardwork because I was able to enjoy this day with all my loved ones. My father is Italian/German/Danish and my mother is fully Honduran. It was fun to plan because my father didnt know much about the traditions of a Quinceanara and we had to teach him everything. We didnt have much time to plan but luckily everything went amazing! =]] I will never forget this day and i could never thank my parents enough for allowing me to have such a party. I tried to have everything traditional but i wanted to have a modern twist on it. I attended church and wore a white gown as tradition holds. But, at the ceremony i changed into a yellow/gold dress and my court stayed in the original brown dresses they wore to church. My Court was fantastic and we performed the waltz, bachata, merengue and the mambo #5 (haha =]). It is true that over the past few decades the traditions of the Quinceanara have changed, but i do not believe it is a negative change. I beleive that hispanic culture is incredibble, latino's and latina's have a blessing because they hold strong family morals and are mostly very loving and hardworking. I'am a young women that is both white and spanish and i have been able to fully accept both cultures and witness the similarities and differences first hand. I take being multiracial as a blessing because i'am certainly not ignorant and i' am able to "live the best of both worlds". I was born in the U.S but i have learned alot about the culture in honduras and italy.
BTW, Congratulations to Honduras for achieving the ability to participate in the world cup!!! (YAY)
Thanks for taking the time out to learn about Quinceanara's, in particularly mine <3
