brussels belgium
these pics are of a short 3 day weekend in brussels, belgium in june of 2009..
my bf and i decided to drive thru luxemburg from germany to celebrate his birthday in this wonderful city..its a mixture of very old and newly built architecture.
its also the city famous for its chocolate, waffles, cherry beer ( called Kriek) and of course the 'mannequin pisse'. a small statue of a boy in the middle of the city that seems to attract tourists by the 1000's everyday.
we found the food excellent ( big pot of mussels in tomatoe sauce is a must try)
and the people were super friendly with almost all speaking english.
1. we sat outside of a small cafe on the greek street until 3am where street musicians entertained well into the early hours.
2. one of the many catherdrals in the old city
3. the royal palace. altho it is not used as the king's primary residence, the belgium royal family does spend a bit of time there attending to state affairs
4.statue in one of the numerous little courtyards off the market place square
5.a shot taken from a doorway arch and looking out into the market square (grotte markt in dutch) and the grand place
6.one of the many sidewalk waffel shops making fresh waffels to order
7.the famous mannequin pisse statue
8.a big display of mannequin pisse statues for sale in a window
9.many of the buildings are theme painted by local artists
10.'Kriek" absolute yummy belgium cherry beer
