Midwest flooding |
Levees holding in Des Moines
6/12/08 10:00 a.m. - Several alternate routes were necessary to navigate to my oldest daughter's camp this morning. After overnight storms, the riverbanks near downtown were swollen, but holding. It looks like the hard lessons learned in 1993 are paying off today - for now.
Fluer Drive (pictured northbound @ Bell in the 12th frame) is the main artery to the south side of town, including the airport, from the rest of the Metro). With water over the road, it's become isolated.
We were ready this time, and the forecast looks promising.
