FC Barcelona iReport: Post Match Review vs. Rubin Kazan
Well, we knew it had to come to an end sometime fellas. Barcelona suffered it's first loss in the Champions League at the hands of Russian Champions Rubin Kazan.
Really, I'm shocked by the outcome, but as I was watching it, after the first minute, you knew we were in for some trouble.
Rubin scored with a screamer in the opening minutes just after the whistle, and just like that, we were up against the Titanic at defense. (Well they had enough people in the box for it to resemble the vessel.)
Too soon?
More appropriately, they parked the bus like the best of 'em. With anywhere from 7-9 players in the box, Barcelona's ticky tack style of play found little room to operate, or capitalize.
It took a brilliant trap and one time strike from our Giant Swedish Ninja (thanks to our friends at BFB for the nickname) and we were level, only to again go behind in the 72 minute after a series of mental mistakes.
Barcelona are now tied in the group stages and look to regain their form after a series of less than stellar performances.
Let's hope we can get it together for the Liga matches coming up, as well as our long distance trip to Russia in November. BBRRRRR.
Since we lost, I won't post a MOTM, I'll go with my Most Disappointing Man of the Match.
Rafael Marquez. He just doesn't look comfortable with the ball at his feet, and he's lost the pace that helped him become a premiere player in the back. Thank goodness we got Chygnasty in the offseason.
That's all folks, head on over to barcelonafootblog.com for more news and updates in between Champions League matches.
