This iReport is part of an assignment:
The new black Barbie |
New Black Barbie is a GOOD thing, period!
Posts asserts that the debate should not be over the hair of the new dolls because they do come from a place of positivity. The debate should be about making sure that all groups in America are represented in America properly. As a father of 2 African American girls, I couldn't even find pullups without White girls on them. I prefer pullups with no images but they don't exist. My kids also love Dora who, until Princess Tiana came out, was the closest thing to black. My kids watch shows with other races like Ni-Hao Kalan, but I believe every group has their confidence built by seeing people on TV who look like them. Obama, Palin, Clinton, & Sotomayor expanded the possibilities for many different groups in this country and that's a good thing! It's not about racism. It's about equal image opportunity and expanding what all Americans see as being possible.
