    Prepared for the worst?

I've always been a fan of the idea that you should always be prepared for the worst while at the same time hopeing for the best. Apparently the makers of the vaccine for the H1N1 virus were to buzy hopeing to prepare for what they knew was coming. For months now we've been told that the intial appearence of the virus at the end of the last school year was only a small example of what would be coming in the fall. Now that the fall has arrived and the kids are back in school the virus has done exactly what medical professionals said it would and even more rapidly than they at first predicted. To add insult to injury the vaccine to fight the virus is in short supply and the media is spending a portion of every day covering the issue in their own unique way. Which some might consider a virus in itself. Every day we are introduced to various experts who tell us how to keep from getting the virus while at the same time there are continuous references made to the millions of people who died in 1918 and although this is probably not as bad as the influenza outbreak it has the potential to come close. The ability of news organizations in this country to take an issue and scare the hell of the veiwing audience never ceases to amaze me. While they spend a good amount of time telling their audience not to panic and to take proper precautions they do it in such a manner that by the time the report or interview is over the only thing a person can do is panic. The virus may or may not turn out to be as bad as some people fear but the one thing that you can be sure of is that the media will somehow manage to make it appear as if it is the worst thing to have happened to civilization since the "Black Plague". All the same I'm getting my shot when ever they can find enough eggs to create the vaccine.
