The Swinden Group Advises on New Tropical Cyclone that May Threaten the Philippines
Newly formed Tropical Depression 23W will bring heavy rains to Guam as it tracks westward towards the Philippines.
Guam – October 26, 2009 – As Tropical Storm Lupit sprints past Japan, a newly formed tropical cyclone in the Western Pacific may threaten the Philippines by the end of the week the Swinden Group is advising their clients.
Tropical Depression 23W in the Western Pacific
As of 0900 UTC, Tropical Depression 23W is located 290 miles east of Guam and is tracking to the west-northwest. The storm is expected to slowly intensify with it becoming a tropical storm within 24 hours and reaching typhoon status within 48 hours. After 72 hours, the tropical cyclone is expected to continue to intensify as it tracks into a favorable environment in the Philippine Sea.
Long Range Forecast
Early projects have the storm reaching the Philippines late this week. In the Philippines, interests should monitor the progress of this storm and be preparing for possibly the fourth tropical cyclone to strike the Philippines.
“The immediate threat from this new tropical cyclone is that it will move through the Marianas Islands on Tuesday with heavy flooding rains being the main threat,” explains Matthew Swinden, President of the Swinden Group. The Swinden Group provides weather risk management services to Fortune 500 Companies and individuals though their Severe Weather Advisories. “Early computer models have the storm approaching the Philippines by the end of the week as a typhoon. If this is the case, this potentially will be the fourth major storm to impact the Philippines since September. We are advising our clients in the Philippines to begin preparations for this potential damaging storm.”
