President Obama Driving Public Towards Conservatism
In a Gallup Pole of 16,321 US adults that concluded in September of 2009, the country has made a marked shift towards political conservatism.
In 2005 moderates equaled conservatives in number as the dominant ideology, but according to this latest survey, now 40 percent of Americans described themselves as conservative, while 36 percent said their views are moderate and 20 percent said liberal, the poll found.
The survey found that 45 percent of Americans said there is too much government regulation of business and industry when asked in September -- an increase from 38 percent in September 2008. A higher percentage of Americans -- 42 percent -- also said labor unions should have less influence -- a 10-point jump from August 2008.
Given the fact that Barack Obama, a democrat, won the last presidential election over conservative rival John McCain indicates a disconnect between what voters thought they were voting for versus what they got with Barack Obama. Had Barack Obama shown his true colors running up to the 2008 elections we may very well could have had conservative John McCain as president right now.
The question is, now that the nation has awoken to the fact we have a left wing liberal president, how will Barack Obama’s congressional supporters fair in the next congressional elections? We may very well see a shift back to republican/conservative power prior to the 2012 presidential elections…or will there be a new conservative power emerging?
