republican party says no to media

I shudder, but it is true, the Republican Party restricting the "type" of press at a public forum....

I got the following email less than an hour ago.
(This email begins with my response

    Carol,

I am a  delegate and a member of the Press. I host and produce a TV show.

Please inform me of the party rules that state this particular meeting can be PRIVATE and that the party can limit the TYPE of press allowed.

It was my plan to attend, with TV camera. I even sent my questions in advance, through Ron Baert. No ambush.

Absent communication from you that verifies you can lawfully restrain the Press from the meeting, I will keep my plans the same.

    Thank you.

    Nancy Lazaryan

Nancy   I received the following Email  from our chairman, Carol Rupar.  I highlighted the part that would pertain  to your plans. Also I copied part of another Email from her that would also  effect your plans.  I wasn't aware of these provisions until I got her  Emails. Ron

    Hi Everyone,
I will forward the flyer from the website for the Gubernatorial event        like I said I would.  It will probably be a separate e-mail.         Please forward to everyone you can think of.
I thought we got stood up at the meeting Monday night.  I think        we waited until 8:30 before we had a quorum to make some decisions.
The Gubernatorial event is set to have round tables for each        candidate.  Mike Jungbauer is the only one I haven't heard        from.  He was also the only candidate that I did not get to talk to        the Friday night after the debate at the state convention.  Seems he        had an unpleasant encounter with a bat and he wasn't doing well on the        rabies shots.
At this point we have the following plans for the Gub event:
Sign in and ask for donations:  Jim Howe, Michael Scovill
Probably need one or two more to hand out dots to assign to        tables
Oversee dessert and coffee table:  Judy Sommers - can use help        here
Bouncer, in the event that someone from the        press shows up with lights and cameras to take advantage of the        situation.
If you can think of anything else that we should cover, please let me        know.  I am getting the clipboards from Cathy Jo.  Should we        have one at each table to sign up to either be contacted about events or        if they wish to volunteer for a candidate.  I have been in touch with        the college Republicans and I think some of them are coming and will be        happy to help.
I am open to any ideas.
We will open with the pledge and an invocation.  I will ask Dan        Severson if he is planning on attending and ask him he he would do the        opening prayer, if he is not coming, Ron Baert will do it.  I find        that we do have another area event that night and some who might come to        our event may be attending the other instead.
We will have dots numbered 1 to 8 or 9 depending on candidates and        people will come in and go to a numbered table to start out.
We decided to give each candidate an opening 2 minutes (check your        minutes, Judy, I am doing this from memory) Each candidate can be        introduced and tell a bit about themselves so they don't have to repeat it        every time a new group heads to their table.
We decided against name tags.  Everyone that offered to bring        desserts, please remember to do so.  We are serving coffee (all        decaf?) and water.  Does anyone want "real coffee"?
Judy Sommers took the minutes from the last meeting, but we do need a        secretary.  If anyone wants to volunteer, don't be bashful. If you        are concerned about getting the convention call out,  I do have that        in my computer from last year.  I would be happy to change the dates,        etc and get it to the new secretary so that person could have copies        printed for the convention in the spring.
The caucus on Feb 2, 2010 will be at the SR Highschool.
Benton Co BPU Convention will be Sat Feb 27 at 9:00 at City Hall in        Sauk Rapids.  I have confirmed that it is available for that        date.
    Carol
I don't want this to be a confrontational        thing that turns people away.  Of course we need to ask the        tough questions but not ambush the candidates.  I did get a call aday        or so ago from KNSI and the guy said he noticed that we were not allowing        the press.  I told him he was welcome to come and participate, take        notes and ask questions but what we did not want was some reporter rolling        cameras and doing in your face ambushing of candidates or attendees.         I believe he will show up but will be respectful.
Talk to you tonight.  I am rather busy at work.
    Carol
