Finding romance on the road |
OVERLAND IN INDIA
In 1985, the world was at peace. I thought it was a great time to see the world, alone. Unbeknownst to me, I was about to meet a French girl. We met in India and took a camel safari in the Rajasthan desert near Jaisalmer and close to the Pakistan border. For 5 days, we were together, and in that time time, fell in love. But then had to say goodbye in a tearful train platform setting not unlike Slumdog Millioniare. She was going north to Kashmir, and I was going south.
It wasn't clear if I was going to see her again. Then , after some heartfelt angnst while numbly strolling the streets of Kathmandu, Nepal it hit me that I should go see her in France. And so I did. I sent her a postcard from Kathmandu announcing my arrival. She responded knowing her life was about to change, but wasn't quite ready for it. And so she left a note on her front door telling me to go back on my round-the-world journey.
I wasn't going to just leave France back to Asia with my tail between my legs...I stuck it out, and made sure we saw each other at least one more time. Long story short, we have been married 22 years, with a beautiful 18 year old daughter.
As a result of that memorable time, I recently released a novel loosely based on that experience called OVERLAND.
Below is a link for a trailer on Youtube about it:
