Typhoon Mirinae may spare Manilla the worst despite direct hit
Typhoon Mirinae continues towards the central Philippines as a category two typhoon with winds of 85kts or 97mph.
However, should the ragged structure of Mirinae persist, Manilla could be spared the worst though the storm is expected to pass directly over the city midday Saturday, PHT.
This is because the eye of Mirinae is broken and the deepest convection is to the south of the center. Satellite forecast estimates for rainfall indicate 8-10 inches of rain may fall in the city. Twelve to fifteen inches are likely in other locations, particularly to the south of Mirinae's track.
Though this is not guaranteed, it is a positive sign for a city dealt a devastating blow in Typhoon Ketsana in September.
