My husband and I would often catch "Meet the Press" on Sunday morning. My husband with a political background and now an attorney, and me with a Masters in Counseling, we are as opposite politically as is humanly possible. I am a "bleeding heart liberal", as my husband so lovingly calls me, and my husband is as far to the right as they come. There were many arguments in our house about political commentary and coverage coming through the airwaves into our household. We could never agree on an all news channel or on any political shows. Tim's obviously researched, straightforward, ambitious and fair style of analyzing the issues and interviewing colleagues and politicians sparked many a great debate in my house on Sunday morning. I think Tim was responsible for my husband and I coming to a place politically where we could discuss the issues with passion but without anger and frustration. I think there was a higher power at work on those days when we would oversleep and miss church on Sunday morning. I think God must have known we needed a dose of Tim to help bridge a gap where there was one. This year my husband voted for a Democratic candidate for the first time in his life. I consider that a tribute to Tim's ability to bring parties together and really focus on the issues that connect us not the issues that divide us. My husband and I will greatly miss his voice of reason on Sunday mornings.
