Dia de Muertos en Tepotzotlán
Tepotzotlán is a XVI Century Town in the Northwest of Mexico City, The name Tepotzotlán is Nahuatl and means “among humpbacks,” referring to the shape of the hills that surround this area. This little town has the Museo del Virreinato, or Museum of the Spanish Viceroy Colonial Period, the museum is housed in a so called Convento a a religious complex that was built by the Company of Jesus in the 1580s. It has a beautiful XVII Century church dedicated to San Francisco Javier, it has the best Churrigueresque Gold covered altarpieces in Mexico.
Every year the people from the Tepotzotlan town make an offering to their dead relatives , the 1st of November dedicated to the Children (All Saints) and the 2nd to all the other relatives.
The offer is made with fruits from the earth, pumpkins, sugarcane, rice, beans, corn, oranges, tangerines and processed meals like the specially made "Death Bread", Sugar Skulls, Mole and Mexican Style Rice, it also includes photographs, candles and souvenirs from their dead relatives.
