    Fallen Steel

The USS New York is being currently built in New Orleans. Steel taken from the ruins of the Twin Towers after the attack of 9-11-01 were taken to New Orleans. The “Fallen Steel” was then melted down and used to create the hull of the USS New York. The painting depicts the Twin Towers during the attack. The falling debris transforms into doves (the souls of the victims) rising back to the Heavens. The American Eagle flies out of the smoke. The Helicopter is a Cobra battle ship that is on the USS New York. The forward mast on the ship has a faded view of the Twin Towers reborn. Beneath the paint on the Towers and in the water in the artist wrote by hand in black ink, the names of victims that perished in the attack on the Twin Towers. Some names can be seen.
    From Fallen Steel
From fallen steel came a rumbling sound.
    Like thunder shook the world.
A thousand souls screamed in anger.
    A thousand more did fall.
    Towers high and mighty strong,
like dust fell to the ground.
But the souls within the walls,
rose like angels to the skies.
And all was left was steel,
like a hand reaching for heaven.
Then rains did fall, for angels wept,
for the innocent lives so taken.
    The fallen steel was moved,
    with fires melted down.
From that steel rose a mighty ship,
that would meet the call for war.
So many came from that great city,
to send this ship to sea.
In the depths of this great ship,
    were echoes of heroes past.
“Take us forth, let us be heard,
for we rose as did the smoke.
For this mighty ship that bears our name,
    carries also our very souls”
“Bless the souls that sail this ship,
into harm’s way maybe the call.
Give them strength and let them not forget,
that day when steel did fall”.
