Christopher Monckton says Obama will destroy America.

It seems right-wing fearmongering doesn’t stop just at our shores.

Christopher Monckton — a British hereditary peer and high-profile skeptic of both global warming and international agreements — caused a stir on Oct. 14, 2009, with a forceful denunciation of the upcoming international talks on climate change in Copenhagen, Denmark, scheduled for Dec. 7-18, 2009.

STOP NOW!Before you read ahead, watch his presentation:

OK, done? Now back to the article.

I am not interested in his position on global warming or climate control. What struck me (and sent me researching) was the following comment: ‘If President Obama signs the Copenhagen climate change treaty, he "will sign your freedom, your democracy, and your prosperity away forever — and neither you nor any subsequent government you may elect would have any power whatsoever to take it back again."

Just how bad does he make this out?

“And it says this: that a world government is going to be created. The word ‘government’ actually appears as the first of three purposes of the new entity. The second purpose is the transfer of wealth from the countries of the West to third world countries in satisfaction of what is called, coyly, a ‘climate debt’ because we’ve been burning CO2 and they haven’t… and the third purpose of this new entity, this government, is enforcement.”

Wow. Talk about stretching something into something unrecognizable.

Read the treaty for yourself (something, I can assure you, his audience never considered going): http://www.globalclimatescam.com/documents/un-fccc-copenhagen-2009.pdf

“So at last, the Communists that piled out of the Berlin wall and into the environmental movement and took over Greenpeace so that my friends who founded left within a year, because they captured it. Now the apotheosis is at hand.”

Really?  This is what is being pushed, behind closed doors, to the right-wing: fear, conspiracy theory, a threat of the defeat of the Constitution of this country… and people are listening. As ludicrous as this sounds, as far-fetched and desperate the right wing claims are becoming, people are listening. Partially because the same people who are creating this fear are trying to push this as viral on YouTube. In essence, spreading ignorance and fear like a disease.

Although I can’t post the entire article here, please see Politifact.com’s response on this very issue: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2009/oct/20/christopher-monckton/british-climate-skeptic-says-copenhagen-treaty-thr/

Stop the fear now. Share this article on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter… the only way we can stop the spread of ignorance is with education.
