Christmas in Saigon
Exotic location, lots of fun for Christmas? I can recommend Saigon, Vietnam. Although most of the population is Buddhist, that does not keep the people from celebrating Christmas. There are billions of lights strung up throughout the city centre, every shop and every hotel, especially the classic hotels like Rex or Continental, is adding towards the festive spirit with "winter" decorations (in 35 degrees C). On Christmas Eve, everybody who owns a motorbike (and the people who do not ) make their way into the city centre. Kids are dressed as Santa, balloons and cotton candy are sold from bicycles, and everybody is having a good time, provided you do not mind thousands of people in holiday cheer.
I took these pics on Christmas 2007, but I heard it is getting better year by year. I am now living in Hanoi, up north, and I am really missing the Southern Vietnam party mood.
