Is America Still the Greatest Country in the World?
20 years ago it was common knowledge America . the Greatest country in the world. We offered more equality to every citizen than any country in the world. We had more opportunities for any citizen to support his or her family than any where in the world. We had a sense of decency amongst us and we were Proud of everything that said Made in America.
Since then though opportunities have been moved to other countries. In the past 30 years the median wage in America has barely kept pace with inflation.
Equality may be high here but recent economic activity shows any perceived equality in this country is at least partially in appearance only.
After the Iran Contra scandal America chose not to impeach President Reagan because it would have looked bad on America during the Cold War. President Clinton went through impeachment hearings because he had sex with an intern. This shows there is no more decency in American Politics.
We may say we believe in a fair days wage for a fair days work but in reality most corporations write their corporate ideology to take every advantage of any tax and labor loophole their lawyers can find. Executives have agents barter for their compensation but laborers are fighting to have the same right by being represented by a union.
After spending time thinking about how our country has changed over the past 30 years do you still think America is the Greatest country in the World?
