Snake River Canyon, Twin Falls, Idaho

On a girl's road trip from Tampa to Portland OR in mid-September, we dropped off route I-84 West to stay in Twin Falls, ID for the night.  I never imagined that I would be in a desert area.  I thought all of Idaho was lush and green.  How much I have to learn!

The terrain was so flat  that you could not see where the Snake River Canyon began.  We were on the bridge as we realized there is a pull-off but we were going too fast to stop.  We drove down to the traffic light, turned around, and came back across the bridge.  We assumed we would go back across, U-turn and repeat our path.  Doing so we realized, too late again, that there was a pull-off in the opposite direction and again we were going too fast to stop.  We got to laughing so hard we were afraid we were going to miss it AGAIN but succeeded in getting safely stopped.  It's a wonderful viewing place to pull-off, get out of your vehicle, and take pictures.

A surprise was that there is a golf course in the middle of the Snake River from what appeared to be sediment deposits or higher ground as the water level has dropped!  It looked like a Mediterranean oasis.

There were good paths along the river and under the bridge where I snapped a few "industrial-type" under carriage photos of the bridge.  You can actually use stairs and come up on the other side of the road and surprise your trip mates.

We were extremely fortunate to witness 5 paragliders jumping off the middle of the bridge to glide down to the shore nearest where we were standing right before we left.

The Snake River Canyon is probably best known for the jumping off place for Evil Knievel in his rocket back in 1974.  I've included a photo of the dirt ramp which is the only thing left.
