40 years of Sesame Street |
Sesame Street 40th birthday street dedication
- nsaidi, CNN iReport producer
After 40 years, I finally made it to Sesame Street!!
Sesame Street was finally honored today on the eve of its 40th birthday with its own corner of New York (@ 64th and Broadway)!
A temporary street sign was unveiled at the event and a Mayoral Proclamation bestowed by the City of New York, proclaiming November 10 Sesame Street Day.
The show's creator, Joan Ganz Cooney, said: “Sesame Street reaches children around the world, but without a doubt, New York City is its home. It’s wonderful for the city to recognize where it all began.”
Many familiar faces from Sesame Street were there including (original cast members) Bob and Luis! Not to mention Big Bird, Grover, Oscar the Grouch, Elmo, Cookie Monster, and many others. Happy Birthday Sesame Street!!
