    Remembering The Enmund Fitzgerald

Thirty four years ago today the Mighty Edmund Fitzgerald plunged to the bottom of Lake Superior near Whitefish Bay. She was the biggest of the great lake freighters at the time. The gale she came across on November 10th 1975 took her and her crew from us. It has taken most of these past 34 years to unravel the mystery of her sinking and answer many of the questions ask by family, friends and to community as a whole. It is believed the ship broke in two at the surface and was quickly sent to the bottom during the storm before anyone had a chance to even react. It is people like this crew that make the world go around delivering goods from point A to point B. With out people like this life would be more difficult. They were just one group of many that make America what she is today. The great lakes have claimed many but, the Edmund Fitzgerald and her crew will always stand out. Everyone makes a difference and they made theirs in the world. They caught the eye of America and the world. They taught us how lake freighter life is a sacrifice from one’s family and friends. They showed us the dedication and the courage that every sailor faces. Twenty nine lives were lost on this day but, the story of those twenty nine shall live on as part of the Great Lakes history and mysteries.

    My Tribute

    "Twenty-Nine" by Rick Pennock
dedicated to the families of the crew of the Fitz

From the great depths. Emerged a story, about a few good men.
    They gave everything they had,
Just so our lives would be, a little bit better.
    Reaching out with there hearts
They helped a small piece of the world to be a better one.

From Cook, Captain to Cadet, sacrifice was shared by all.
Though the years have passed, our memories have not faded.
You are not forgotten in our hearts, minds, and souls.
Our respect belongs to you the crew of Twenty Nine.
You are what this nation is all about.
Sacrificing your lives so we all could have a better one in the end.
