I listened to two elderly women in the grocery store today talking about the Larry King Live show last night where Ms. Prejean, former California beauty queen, had a bad night- to put it politely.  They were comparing her to another former beauty queen, Anita Bryant. I had chuckled at her PreJean's antics and was curious so  when I got home i looked up Anita bryant. Funny thing, that beauty queen / gay crusader role. Read a little more.

Bryant became Miss Oklahoma (my home state!!)in 1958 and was a second runner-up in the 1959 Miss America beauty pageant at age 19,

Made anti-gay statements and, famously, had a pie thrown in her face (she was seated and not as quick as Ann Cult-er)

Fired from her job as spokesperson for Florida citrus Commission

Miss California USA 2009,(cue the Twilight Zone theme music- 50 years later!)

An insider at the Capitol Hill Club tells TMZ Carrie canceled five minutes before she was supposed to speak because her camp wanted to avoid a repeat of last night's "Larry King Live" fiasco -- when she almost walked off the set.”

oh- and, PS- there is that other little beauty queen relationship via Alaska - perhaps she taught Ms. PreJean how to "Pull a Palin" and cancle out on an obligatin.
