This iReport is part of an assignment:
Losing a loved one to suicide

    More from Broken

I may have handled this wrong. But it worked!

First, I never lost anyone to suicide.

I don't think I ever met anyone who committed suicide either.

But when I was a teenager I had a friend who told me she was considering it.

At the time, it just struck me how silly it was to give in the fear she was feeling.

She was going through a really hard time with her family.

    A very abusive family!

I know I said the absolute wrong thing to her. But it stopped her from any consideration of suicide.

    What I said was:

"Why would you want to do that? You could do more damage to the persons who have hurt you, if you are alive. Nothing can be done once you are dead".

She laughed and called me a psychopath.

    I told her I wasn't a psychopath. I would probably be called a sociopath.

I knew the difference between right and wrong!

    I just didn't give a damn! (remember I was a teenager)

    But it worked.
