Breast Cancer Caught Early By Self Examination

    CNN Assignment:  Breast Cancer.

About 8 years ago I took my Mother on a vacation to Washington DC for Mother's Day.  There is so much to see and while we were walking around, we came across the Susan B. Komen breast cancer awareness event.  We were walking around looking at all the booths when my Mom just blurted out that she has breast cancer!  I just looked at her and said "what did you say?."  She told me she had just gotten the word from her doctor a week ago.  I was in shock, all I could think about was her dying, I asked her why she didn't say anything and she said she wanted to spend this time with me in DC and that she also wanted a distraction to what was to take place soon.  Well, needless to say, I wasn't much in the mood to view more of DC after this announcement but we continued the vacation.

It seems the moment my Mom found the lump, she immediatley saw her doctor who then set up the surgery, during surgery all that needed to be removed was the lump that had BEEN CAUGHT SO EARLY nothing else was required except regular check ups!  No mascectomy, no chemo, no radiation, no nothing.  All caught early by self examination!!
