Gusher shuts Hollywood Walk of Fame
While the disaster flick 2012 took theaters by storm this past weekend, the Hollywood Walk of Fame had a small disaster of its own. A three car pileup sheared off a hydrant over a water main a block to the west of the landmark Grauman's Chinese Theater, shutting down Hollywood Boulevard with a cascade of water and causing traffic gridlock befitting the night of Friday the 13th.
Video:
1: An LAPD officer and another bystander provide accounts of the accident while the wrecked cars are towed away and Los Angeles firefighters wait for the stories-high gusher to be shut off.
Images:
2-4: Normally-busy Hollywood Boulevard is closed to traffic as the accident is cleared.
5: A sign of the times - everybody taking digital photos.
6-7: Los Angeles firefighters prepare to deal with the water.
8: This image of an LAPD officer riding past the scene on a Segway is a bit of an off-topic segue, but it seemed to fit in with this odd Hollywood scene.
