Public Statement
Mapuche Arauco Malleco Coordinator of Communities in Conflict (C.A.M.)
We inform our Mapuche People, public national and international opinion the following:
After 7 years, there has been no justice served by the Chilean police officer, Marco Treuer, whom shot and murdered our Weichafe [Warrior] ALEX LEMUN. We wish to express our profound heartbreak for the death of our Weichafe. Alex's case was investigated by Military Prosecution that has yet to convict the officer responsible, and is still in active service today. Neither should we forget it was General Bernales, who directed Chilean National Police operations during that period, and was then crowned as a "hero" by the Chilean government, overlooking all his culpabilities.
At that time, a Public Statement by the CAM stated, "The Chilean National Police Force (Carabineros), political parties of the 'Contertación' government, as well as those of the right, parliamentarians, and the general oppressive State acting on the interests of corporations, should assume the historic responsibility of murdering a Mapuche man within this new stage of struggle as a People."
Today, there have been up to three Weichafe that have fallen struggling for our just right to our territory, and we know that our brothers are with us each day. Therefore, we will continue struggling for our autonomy as a Mapuche Nation, and for the territorial control of all Wallmapu.
In this same way, we call out to all Mapuche communities, organizations, collective alliances, and sympathizing brothers to remember him on the day of his death; carrying out different actions anywhere we may find ourselves.
We also call out to the Mapuche communities to continue the occupations of land, to strengthen the productive work of reclaimed lands, and continue territorial control.
Our best homage is to continue resisting and struggling for the liberation of our Mapuche Nation.
With our heroes LEFTRARU, PELANTARO, LEMUN, MATIAS CATRILEO, & JAIME MENDOZA COLLIO, we will continue advancing towards NATIONAL MAPUCHE LIBERATION.
Lastly, we wish to acknowledge the actions of resistance put on by our communities, as they are the expression of Mapuche dignity made in practice. While Winka [Settler] law protects the murderers, Mapuche dignity will make justice.
