Finally the day we've all waited for is here. Okay, so not all of us. Except for a loud minority who for some reason have decided to elevate Sarah Palin to the level of national icon and who believe folksy language and a wink can rule a nation most people will go about their daily routines. Some will read the book out of curiosity but most will watch her Kate and Jon like reality show unfold on TV and see her as the cartoon character she has become. The main question that a lot of people will be asking is about her intentions for the 2012 Presidential campaign. In contrast to many of my like minded liberal friends and most rational American citizens I hope that she does run. For one, and I am completly serious about this it would be nice to see some one other than self righteous middle age white guys from the south run for the position and second the fact that she is so incredibly unqualified to be President will motivate women with far more potential and lets be honest knowledge of the world to run. In the world that we live in image has a way of getting in the way of substance and we would be silly if we didn't admit Palins appearence has a lot to do with the amount of coverage she receives, but if we ever want to achieve a postion of authority and credibility in this world ever again we have to stop relying on what we think looks good and focus more on what we do. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and give credit where credit is due. She did run for office and was elected by people who saw something in her that they needed and maybe if she had not been used as a pawn to help the McCain campaign struggle to over come an image but rather was groomed a bit more for a national election she may have been able to come across as someone worthy of a nations leadership. But I doubt it. From my point of view all she's done is look good, complain about the media she continues to use to promote herself and have a lack of intellectual curiosity that almost makes me long for GWs contrived down home sayings. But then again didn't a lack of intellectual curiosity, a take no prisoners, America as the center of the universe get us into this mess in the first place?
