This iReport is part of an assignment:
How well do you take care of your girls? |
They might be without a wife/mother if my mammogram was put off till 50
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in June of 2007 at the age of 41. The cancer was found through my FIRST mammogram...suppose that was put off till age 50. Fortunately the cancer was found early and I was only a stage 1. There was no lump to feel, if not for the mammogram I would never have known it was there. I wonder if/when the cancer might have been found if I had to wait 10 more years before my insurance would cover the test. I feel that everyone should have a mammogram at age 30 and use that and family health history to determine when the next mammogram should take place. Without that age 40 recommendation my story could have a very different ending. Do those Doctors want to look into the eyes of my husband and children and tell them I should have waited? Mammogram's should be free and to everyone, everywhere, all the time, regardless of age, income or insurance.
