UC Budget Cuts - Why?
My daughter attends UC Davis and I am not sure how we are going to handle the 32% increase. My daughter's opinions about the fee increases directly echo the protesters: "I work in association with Mrak Hall. Yesterday, Mrak Hall was shut down due to the protesters. I am in full support of the protest as students' fees should not be increased, but the Chancellor's salary and benefits should be reconsidered. The Chancellor is treated like the President of the United States with a guaranteed house (quite big in my opinion), university car, and a $400,000 yearly salary." Furthermore, I am a single mom, who is solely supporting my children. My nephew attends UCLA and I am not sure how his parents feel about this either. One thing I do know is that he is currently working two jobs to support his education and living expenses. This is very unaccounted for by the UC Regents. However, the blame falls on Sacramento. I don’t feel Sacramento is fair when it comes to decreasing the support to the schools and colleges. The Governorator was elected solely because he stated he would not decrease the budgets for schools and colleges. I remember he said that the budget responsible for the educational institutions would not decrease. He ran on this mission and vision. So, what happened? I pay my taxes, as do millions of other Californians. Where is my money going? America already has the poorest and lowest ranking education system in the world, why diminish the structure further?
