Iran: Suppression of university students continues in Shiraz
Friday, 20 November 2009
NCRI –Agents of Iranian regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) arrested two female students of Shiraz University on Tuesday and their fate remains unknown.
Meanwhile the Iranian regime’s judiciary has postponed the trial of students who were arrested during November 4 protests at the university’s campus to determine their status.
The arrests and delays in holding court trials are seen as parts of efforts by the Iranian regime to increase its pressure on student activists ahead of the national Student Day on December 7 to prevent anti-regime protests.
The Iranian regime’s judiciary first held a “court session” on November 11 in Shiraz to determine the status of 48 protesters who were arrested on November 4 in the city, but it refused to review the cases of students among them. Review of their cases had been postponed to November 19-20.
Mullahs’ prosecutor’s office in Shiraz had told the families of the detained students that they should expect that their detention would be extended to a time later than December 7th student day.
