A Coast Guard Social Media Code of Conduct
We found this link on one of Peter Stinson’s many sites. We like and support all of it except paragraph 3. Many Coast Guard Bloggers have faced acts of reprisal, including loss of their jobs even while living by the remainder of this draft document. Coast Guard is and remains an unstable work environment for those willing to stand up against Fraud, Waste and Abuse.
With that said, we find the draft document interesting and wonder if some of the links found on several Coast Guard supported private party social medial sites live up to paragraphs 2 and 4. We’re pretty sure they don’t
A Guardian’s Social Media Code of Conduct
I am a Guardian, a proud member of the Coast Guard family. I use new and social media to communicate, to learn, and to engage. I represent the Coast Guard and Guardian “brands” and will endeavor to follow this Code of Conduct in my online life.
Honor, respect, and devotion to duty will guide my contributions to new and social media. As a Guardian, my contributions to the Internet are my own, but still represent the Coast Guard brand. I am a Guardian, and I aim to uplift the Coast Guard as an organization.
I will use my name. I am a Guardian and proud of my association with the Coast Guard. When I speak about the Coast Guard or in forums frequented by Guardians, I will ensure that I am clear about who I am.
I respect my fellow Guardians. I will publish and encourage only acceptable content. Unacceptable content includes content which is used to abuse, harass, stalk, or threaten others; which is libelous, knowingly false, ad-hominem, or misrepresents another person; which infringes upon a copyright or trademark; or which violates the privacy of others or an obligation of confidentiality. As a Guardian, I respect our Constitutional and intellectual rights and responsibilities.
I will guard against releasing classified, operational, and sensitive but unclassified information. I am a Guardian, and I look out for my fellow Guardians.
I may display the “Guardian Endorsed” badge on any social media presence I have in which I will voluntarily comply with this Code of Conduct. If I seek to comply with this Code of Conduct, I may request to be added to the index of like-minded Guardians.
