Rielyn's Cause - Is hearing a privilege?
Rielyn Ranieri, a vibrant, happy, toddler, was born into a world of silence. After being born the hospital failed to detect any signs of hearing loss and her parents brought her home to her loving family. When Rielyn didn't react to loud noises they sensed that something was wrong. Several hearing tests later she was diagnosed with profound hearing loss.
Decades ago a child like Rielyn would not have a chance of ever hearing, but with the latest medical technology she may be able to finally hear the voice of her Mommy and Daddy. In order for Rielyn to hear she needs to get cochlear implants. Sounds simple enough? Not quite. Her insurance company will only pay for 1 cochlear implant.
Why should an insurance company be able to decide that a child can hear out of only one ear? The rationing of health care coverage may one day affect us all. Imagine being told that you only have the option of hearing out of one ear. Is hearing a privilege?
Rielyn’s parents have only one option – raise approximately $60,000 to pay for the other cochlear implant. Family, friends, and even strangers have stepped forward to raise money to help pay for this surgery, but they still have a long way to go.
We know that health care issues are not going to be fixed overnight and Rielyn shouldn’t have to wait. Please help Rielyn overcome her hearing loss by donating to her cause. On her behalf we thank you.
