I AM THANKFUL FOR LOSING MY JOB

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     dpkronmiller is a repeat iReporter who shares his personal story of how losing his job has changed his outlook on life.
    - nsaidi, CNN iReport producer

This Thanksgiving, though still unemployed and hoping the job market improves here in the entertainment industry, I am thankful and grateful for two main things: being married to my wonderful wife and for the journey we’ve had this last year.

It was a year of job losses, sacrifice and victory.

We elected a new President, we turned the broader economy around and faced our mistakes full in the face. None of it was easy but it was all necessary.

And of course we’re not done – the shore is still on the horizon – but we are no longer alone in the water, instead we are rowing together…well mostly together.

I am thankful for the election, not only did we elect a good leader but in the doing many of us learned to dream again and reach for something greater in ourselves and each other.

I am thankful for losing my job. It wasn’t easy. It dropped me to my knees and knocked the wind out of my lungs. But suddenly I had no more excuses. No more reasons to hide behind a glass wall.

I am thankful for Boris. I’ve learned so much through him and his new friends. He taught me to love writing again and to dare to be a hero in life, rather then waiting for directions as a sidekick. And more practically he’s taught me a heck of a lot about series work.

I am thankful for my friends, the actors of Boris – they not only breathed life into these characters but in so doing breathed a bit more life into me. They are generous, wonderful and talented people and I smile as I write this as I will see all of them in a few days in front of the camera once again.

I am thankful for my family. The net below the hire wire act of life.

I am thankful, of course, for my wife. She is a beautiful woman with a beautiful soul without whom I would be but a dim man in a lonely room in a brick building in a tough city. I love her more with each passing wave.

And ultimately, I suppose, thank you for reading.
