Obama's Afghanistan decision |
Obama & Americans: right & wrong on Afghanistan
Post asserts that we need to support Obama's decision. While driving by the White House before the speech, I saw protesters depicting him as Hitler. Americans who go down this route are not being realistic about what is happening in Afghanistan. President Obama as a candidate said he wanted to be sure we were fighting the right war and he is doing that. It was wrong of him, however, to attach a timeline to this war. This will make the enemy fight even harder over the next 2-3 years. They will believe that we will run in the end. He can have the timeline, but to be so forceful in announcing it could indeed backfire. Overall, this was a well thought-out decision that I pray will have its desired results, particularly if it is coupled with diplomacy, as he promised. A military option alone will be disastrous.
