Amman 350 holds Candlelight Vigil to call for a “REAL DEAL” in COPENHAGEN
December 11th—People from around Amman gathered on Friday night for a candlelight vigil to show that the world wants a real deal at the Copenhagen climate talks, as part of the second largest day of climate change activism ever. Participants joined more than 3,000 communities in 139 countries as part of a global day of action coordinated by 350.org, tcktcktck.org, avaaz.org to urge world leaders to take bold and immediate steps to address climate change and reduce carbon emissions.
Citizens and youth groups rallied together in forming the number 350 out of candlelight. Many scientists, climate experts and progressive national governments are now saying that 350 parts per million is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. The number 350 has become a symbol of climate action since a massive global day of demonstrations organized by the environmental group 350.org on October 24th.
Supporters at the vigil took turn writing messages on a 6x2 m wall asking for all countries to urgently sign a climate agreement
