British Airways strike |
BA holding passengers hostage
BA is allowing passengers to rebook/change existing reservations so that they are outside the Dec 22 - Jan 2 period.
My wife, infant and I are flying, or think we are... on Dec 24. LAX->LHR->DXB
We purchased full fare tickets for myself + infant in Business Class, i used points/miles to get a business class companion ticket for my wife back in early SEPTEMBER.
Note that we are not suck-up ... our infant is just 3 months old so we figured business class might give us a little extra protection and allow her to not get sick or scared.
Back in september, i could have purchased Luft or Airfrance tickets for $8500-$9500. With my miles for BA i was able to get away with $7500 for our BA tickets.
I called BA on Dec 15th, trying to change my dates, all they had was dec 18th, no problem ill take it... after 45 minutes of wait,, i was told "since you have a companion ticket issues from travel agent asiamiles you need them to change your booking"
Really? are you serious, there are just 2 seats left on the flight on Dec 18th, you want me to call asiamiles and have them change my wifes dates? Knowing that this would not be possible as she had a companion ticket and the class is totally different, i suggest i conference call.
I did. and as expected, after another 30 minutes, the asiamiles agent couldnt change the booking as no seats were available, 2 seats were open in J class and asia miles could only book in U and BA would not help with it even though her companion is a BA ticket, not a code-share.
So all this bull-crap about BA allowing passengers to reschedule or doing whatever it can to help is a big lie...
It is a big lie because
1. I cannot get a refund until BA confirms that all flights are cancelled.
2. I cannot change my entire reservation within BA even though all are BA tickets
3. If i purchase a ticket from anywhere else now its 40%-60% more expensive
4. If i purchase a ticket from somewhere else, and the flights DO NOT get cancelled. I am stuck with 2 tickets and out $20,000.
so.. .in a nutshell, BA is holding us hostage.
