Throwaway Generation - Medicare Cuts for Elderly
The Affordable Health Care for Americans 2009 bill will soon be law. This is great news for uninsured Americans and legal immigrants.
However, it is not good news for Medicare recipients. In the past, changes to Social Security like uppint the age at which you may receive it, has grandfathered people either already in the program or about to enter it. This was done so that the younger generations would have sufficient time to prepare for the change while not putting current recipients at a disadvantage.
We were not told what the cuts to Medicare services might be. One hopes our representatives knew and that they felt they were reasonable. One is known - loss of a lot of in home care which, ironically, has proved to save money.
In making Medicare the main area of cost saving to pay for the health care reforms, Congress has made us, the weakest social link, the throwaway generation.
