Freezing rain falls over Des Moines
Rain and freezing rain has been falling over much of south central Iowa Wednesday. Roads have been in relatively good condition as of this afternoon, however other surfaces have a thin layer of ice. Temperatures are expected to hover at or just above the freezing mark in Des Moines through Christmas Eve with the potential for majoring icing to occur. Just a hours drive to the northwest, parts of Iowa may get up to 16 inches of snow before the major winter storm concludes winds down Saturday night. Above: rain and melting snow have accelerated the icicles outside my apartment. The longest icicle is over five feet. Photographs by Clarence Smith
