    Burj Dubai Grand Opening - Fireworks (Burj Khalifa)


    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     fhames, an American in Dubai who lives near the new tower, says there was "total gridlock" after the colorful opening celebrations.

    The fireworks for the grand opening of the Burj Dubai, as seen from in front of our apartment building, with around 2,000 other people (in our section).


    The Burj Dubai was inaugurated as the "Burj Khalifa" named after the ruler of the emirate of Abu Dhabi (and president of the United Arab Emirates) Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan.  The Burj opening coincided with the 4th anniversary of Dubai's Ruler (Sh. Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum) to the throne.
