The Un-Official History - How The Beatles Brought Down Soviet Communism

Tonight I watched an interesting CBC documentary on The Passionate Eye titled, ´How The Beatles Rocked The Kremlin.´

The Official History is it was Ronald Reagan, along with Gorbachev, who transformed the Soviet Union into the Capitalist system it now is. Until this documentary, I believed the Official line.

In those early years in the U.S.S.R, it was illegal to buy or sell Beatles music, as illegal as buying or selling drugs. The Police arrested both the buyers and the dealers. Beatles music was shared ¨underground¨ with trusted friends in defiance of the State at the risk of arrest, but the youth of Russia were willing to take that risk.

It was interesting to watch the Deputy Prime Minister to Prime Minister Putin freely talk about those days of his youth so long ago when he was buying bootleg Beatles music.

What I found interesting to note, was those Soviet youths of 40 years ago, who had to fabricate their own guitars to emulate The Beatles, began writing Russian Rock music with lyrics calling for Change long before President Obama arrived on the scene. We are still waiting for Change. The same ´ole is getting worse.

I was living in Montreal when John Lennon and Yoko had their Bed-in For Peace in 1969. John said the Beatles were more popular than Jesus Christ. I have no doubt that was an objective Truth then, and probably is still True Today.

American Christian leaders were incensed by that statement. They were so offended they promoted mass burning of Beatles albums like the Nazis burned books in another time.

The Beatles did change the world - for the better.
