Elvis 75th Birthday, Memphis TN
Augusts 16, 1977 was the day Elvis Presley died; I was four years old. Growing up in the Mid-South I never understood the awe surrounding Elvis Presley. Why couldn't I touch the stacks of LP’s my grandmother kept by her bed? Why were people outside the stone wall crying and leaving flowers year after year? This year, the 75th anniversary of his birth, I decided to see what answers I could get to the questions of my childhood.
It was 21degrees outside and snow flurries were falling but there I was at Graceland. It was my very first visit. Each year the stone fence outside Graceland is cleaned to make room for the new years visitors. In just the brief time I was there visitors were there from Germany, Canada, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and Missouri. I had a very special surprise when I rounded the curve of the long drive and came face to face with Marlyn Mason. She co-starred with Elvis in The Trouble With Girls. What a treat! She was gracious enough to allow me to take her picture. I also photographed writings from around the world posted on the stone fence outside. I even included my son's picture reading the different inscriptions. The Meditation Garden is beautiful this time of year and as you can see the final resting place of Elvis Aaron Presley is not forgotten but lives on for many people. Yes, he has touched the hearts of so many and continues to do so. Even my cat who is named Sinatra is a fan. I had to include his own personal tribute to Elvis as the final picture.
Enjoy!
