WOMAN WITH MENTAL ILLNESS DISAPPEARS, COPS DON'T DO A SEARCH TIL NEARLY ONE MONTH LATER
Rogers was driving north. Footprints in the snow led from her car, across the median and into the southbound lanes, where they disappeared. Her purse was found 30 feet from her vehicle, keys were still in the ignition and the vehicle was still running. According to police officer Toby Perry police have followed some leads but he stressed that, "as a 29-year-old, Rogers has no obligation to keep her family abreast of her whereabouts". He adds,"Rogers is welcome to call police herself to confirm her condition". - Foster's Daily Democrat
It’s affecting them a lot, the baby especially,” Rogers’ husband, said of their child. “He's been acting out a lot. He's constantly been trying to get to the door to find his mom. "
“This is not a rational person,” said Rogers’ father, Bob Rogers who came up from Florida to speak with cops about his daughter's disappearance. Bob Rogers has hired 2 private investigators. Maine and New Hampshire law enforcement didn't decide to do any sort of search for Sarah until 3 weeks later when her father came to Maine from Florida to view the spot where his daughter's car was found abandoned. Her father adds, “She can be delusional, paranoid and disoriented.”
Sarah Rogers is bipolar, and her family believes she may be confused. That morning, she was upset and her husband couldn’t calm her down so he called 911. But before police arrived, Sarah left the home wearing only shorts and a t-shirt.
On Sunday evening (January 10, 2010), a candlelight vigil was held in honor of Sarah and her family in Portland, Maine's Monument Square, to bring more attention to Sarah's case, and keep her face in the public eye. Sarah's sister from MA, attended the vigil and expressed her concerns to me: "I don't understand why the police would wait until my father shows up in Maine from Florida before they would search the area, it has snowed a lot since they found her car stranded, of course its going to be hard to find clues. Its been almost a month she could be anywhere by now."
