    More from halemalu

about earthquakes, poverty and building codes

perhaps this is not the right time to bring this up yet, but there is a correlation between poor or non-exisiting building safety standards and deaths from collapsing buildings during earthquakes. it's one of my pet-peeves and now it happened again; homes built from bricks and rocks do not hold up. in areas of the world where pople build from bamboo and alike, there are less injuries. in italy and the mid east, a 5 pointer quake causes deaths and who dies? poor people. the government don't give a damn about the poor. they could build cheap and safe homes and apartment blocks if the wanted to of natural materials which bend with the movement of the earth.

    will they ever learn?
