Queen Lili'uokalani Japanese Gardens
Lili'uokalani Gardens, authentic Japanese garden, was built in the early 1900's as a memorial to honor the Japanese immigrants who worked in the sugar plantations, and named for the last reigning monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaii, Queen Lydia Lili'uokalani. Queen Lili'uokalani was forced to give up her throne in 1898 when Hawaii was annexed to the U.S., and died in 1917.
Strolling through 30-acres of exotic landscaping, ponds, pagodas, stone lanterns, bridges and banyan trees, it is a wonderful place to spend part of the afternoon, enjoying the tranquil setting with wonderful ocean views, and soft breezes off Hilo Bay....
