Winfield, Old Monroe and Warnings
(Tuesday, June 24th)
Water that has gone under Hwy 79 threatens to close Hwy 79 South of Winfield (this would move the road closure from Hwy 47 to Hwy C near Old Monroe. Some homes West of Hwy 79 in Old Monroe are getting water as sand bagging continues...
This is from today's press release....
"According to the Army Corps of Engineers and Army National Guard, the Pin Oak Levee protecting southeast Winfield experienced a 2.5 foot down slide along a 160 foot section of the northern wall. The Army Corps of Engineers is currently laying sandbags along the 160 foot section that slide down and have added several truckloads of dirt at the base of the slide to keep further slippage. "
"The Army National Guard reported a three inch hole pouring water out of the southeast corner of the levee at Pin Oak. Currently, the Army Corps of Engineers and engineers with the Army National Guard are assessing the situation. "
"The Emergency Operations Command is asking all boaters to please stay off the water. Wakes are causing deterioration along all our levees, especially Pin Oak. A two inch wake can be the difference between saving the levee at Pin Oak or a catastrophic failure."
"Residents - please do not accept money from the media to provide boat tours, those wakes are damaging your levees."
"Foley reports additional water flowing over Highway 79, flood waters has impacted 95% of the homes. To date, 692 homes have been impacted by flooding in Lincoln County."
