Victims of the Haiti earthquake |
Letter to Pres. Obama
President Obama;
I have watched the various news reports on the devastation to Haiti, and i am at a loss as to why the aid given by so many has yet to see any semblance of organization to be distributed. I am also confused as to how, with so many disasters that the U.S. responds too, that we still haven't found a decent plan to work in the best interests of the victims of these disasters.
So it is with great humility and and shame for our lack of organization in this respect, that i submit these few idea's to assist you in keeping a potentially bad situation in Haiti from becoming much worse.
I suggest that both the Navy SeeBee's and Army engineer corps be sent to begin clearing debris and building water and sewage infrastructure to accommodate and relieve the demand on aid resource, this should also be done using local native labor to occupy them and ward off the frustration so evident on the news. Clearing paths will also give ease to distributing aid throughout devastated area's while a division of medical corps' attends the issue of the dead. Aid assistance can follow the initial cleanup, or clearing, seek community leaders to assist there as i they will have more respect within their communities.
Helicopters from the Vinson can load aid and travel to the many parks to distribute the resources, taking along a small security detachment until the UN can be organized, continue to fill and distribute aid resources so that everyone is attended. Military cooks division's can be set up in the parks to distribute meals, possibly send generators and TV's to calm the people and keep them within the park area's, more to allow rescue workers to due their duty without delay. I would also assess local resources left undamaged to use in the manufacture of infrastructure, also to begin building block housing in clear area's to give the hurt and children comfort before bad weather sets in, alternating to school facilities in the daytime.
Mr. President; These people need and desire some form of organization, they need to occupy themselves or they will take their frustration out on others victims and force the UN or other peace keeping organizations to martial law, and that will do mare harm than the indecision that is already occurring in the relief and aid system. These are just a few idea's that are important to the aid workers as well as the victim's themselves, Good Luck and God Bless.
